INTERPRETER: KENAN ÖZGÜR YAŞAR

Emel Mathlouthi, is forbidden in her own country Tunusia, cries out through her wonderful voice like that in her song 'Kelmti Horra' (My Words are free)

Because her songs are politic, they got banned in Tunusia and for that reason Emel Mathlouthi obligatorily immigrated to Paris in 2006. She adds a dimension to the music of Tunusia through her compositions interpenetrates inside of people, her quitar tunes and her tremendous voice..

Mathlouthi, has been grown up with Protest Music of Arabic and Latin America, she has announced interesting echo of musical wealth. Due to the same reason, It's not possible to square her music with just one kind of music. Her
gut-wrenching voice is like between hard rock and trip hop.

Voice of Agony and Resistance...

The year 2004, in when she composed her songs, was the important milestone of her music life. In her words, Mathlouthi vocalizes freedom, esperance, resistance, disappointment and agony in a multilingual way. She also supports a public in wartime and havoc through her strong and limpid voice. Mathlouthi, has composed her track Malkit (I Couldn't Find) after Israel bombarded up Gaza:

'I couldn't find any melody that could extirpate rage of people.
I couldn't find my people, my family, my happiness, my way.'

The artist who has met Aynur Dogan's voice and songs when searching on web, has liked the requiem 'Ahmedo' which belongs to Nizamettin Arıc the most. It is really something else to listen to 'Ahmedo' from Mathlouthi's voice, it takes you to somewhere you never know, getting emotional.

It wouldn't be wrong, if we called Mathlouthi 'cineaste' who watches movies so much, especially the music of movies she has passion for, gives us a chance to listen to her voice in  different languages. It is also the way how she explored the song 'Naci en Alamo' in movie 'Vengo' that had been made by Algerian director Tony Gatlif. In deed, in the song 'Naci en Alamo' that explains Gypsies' life and love, she has put Palestine instead of love, that is Alamo, also she has dedicated the song 'Naci en Palestine' (I was born in Palestine) to Palestinians who are away from their countries like she is.

On the other hand, she has simply revived the songs 'Ederlezi' in Emir Kusturica's moive 'Gypsies' Time' and Blacksea ballad 'Ben Seni Sevdigumi'(I Love You) in Fatih Akın's movie 'Cennetin Kıyısında' (The Edge of Heaven).

Friends who have not met that splendid voice yet, you can meet that if you mind to listen to her song 'Kelmti Horra'. You will see true life experiences, agonies; how she gets them associated with hope. Perhaps thats the strongest reason why we're glad that we have you Emel Mathlouthi...Yasal Uyarı: Tüm hakları www.sibelizliyor.com'a aittir. Kaynak gösterilse dahi yazı ve fotoğrafların tamamı özel izin alınmadan kullanılamaz.
